Cyprus, Napa Safari
Scuba Diving: This dive trip to Cyprus was booked a pre-arranged over the internet after
finding a dive centre online called
Dive-In.
Dive-In have centres located throughout Cyprus,
the one we used and booked through was located in Larnaca just
by an old fishing harbour. The people where really friendly with
contact made by phone and email before leaving the UK.
Unlike my last dive aboard this one would
involve taking my 12+ year daughter on her first ever diving
trip, therefore I needed to arrange a trip which would best suit
her Jr Open Water level and maximum depth limit of 15m. Dive-In
where made aware that my daughter would be diving with me, and
that this trip was based around her and not me. Dive-In
therefore arranged for us to do what is know as a Napa Safari,
the dive site locations are picked on the day depended on wind
and weather conditions.
The two dive site locations selected for our
diving where Tunnels & Caves and Green Bay located around the
coastline off Aiya Napa, hence the name Napa Safari.
Tunnels
& Caves, This site is located off a beaten track where a
short rocky path way down to the sea takes some careful walking,
before stepping out on to a rock ledge which provides a great
giant stride entry point into clear crystal waters with
visibility around 20+ meters. After dropping into the sea you
make a decent down to a sandy bottom at around 5m before
swimming out to your first cave, this cave is house shoe shaped
with very little room and therefore divers must enter one at a
time. The cave is very short and therefore a great little cave
to try your first dive in an overhead environment, before moving
on to the next bigger horse shoe cave and then the larger tunnel
which leads you out to a sandy bay. Maximum depth on this site
at around 10 - 12meters which makes it a great site for Jr Open
Water divers like my daughter.
Green
Bay, This site is located just by a little fishing boat
harbour, with a lovely sandy bay entry point into the sea, where
you make a decent to around 2meters before swimming out into the
bay. The bay drops off to a maximum of 10meters after swimming
over the remains of an old wreak, only the pieces of broken pots
remain with the remains of the wooden ship long gone, fish life
seems to be better on this site compared to Tunnels & Caves with
shoals of black banded brim found swimming around the green
grass like weed which gives this dive site it's name. Stone
columns and figures have also been placed at this site, making
it and great location for newly trained / trainee divers to get
a great photo of diving in Cyprus.
A Big Big Thank you to,
Sheri & Jason at Dive-In for making this such a
lovely dive trip for my daughter and I, would highly recommend
this dive centre to anyone wishing to dive whilst in Cyprus.
